E-mails from grant recipients:

Dear Joel and Seth,

Just sending this note to wish you and your family a very Happy Thanksgiving holiday and thank you for your donation to help establish the Children's Village at Lotus Village as an innovative new children's resource center for our sheltered children and the children and families in our neighborhood. We are so deeply grateful! The funds arrived from the Miami Foundation and we are tracking them for use and proper recognition of the Jean Perwin Memorial Fund for the benefit of the Legal Center at the Children's Village. It is a wonderful legacy to be sure and will change lives.

Thank you again, much love,

Mr. Perwin,

I did not have as much time to speak with you yesterday as I would have liked.  I'm sorry to contact you at the office, but I felt compelled to tell you thank you again.  I have researched Ms. Perwin online, and she sounds like she was an amazing woman.  It was so nice of you to attend the event and to speak as the scholarship was presented.  I am honored to be the recipient of the award.  Please know that Ms. Perwin will not be forgotten.  She is now a part of my law school journey, and I will continue to work hard in her honor.

Thank you again.

Regards,
Katie Sloan

Dear Ms. Bach and Mr. Perwin,

This is amazing news -- thank you so much for choosing me as the recipient of Jean Perwin Memorial Scholarship! I feel truly honored to be part of such a prestigious group of women.

Mr. Perwin, your wife sounds like she was an incredible human being. Her background in administrative law, intellectual property, and the cultural and arts sphere in Miami makes me wish I had the chance to meet her. That myself and your daughter share the same name - well, that seems like this is just fate. I can tell she is someone I would have admired, and I hope to perhaps follow in her footsteps if I have the chance to pursue intellectual property or technology litigation once I graduate.

Mr. Perwin, I look forward to meeting you at the reception. Again, thank you so much for your sponsorship of this scholarship. Please know I sincerely appreciate it, and it will undoubtedly make a difference for me in my law school career.

Sincerely,

Dear Ms. Bach,

This is amazing news! I am honored to be a recipient of the scholarship and to help continue the legacy of Mrs. Perwin.

Mr. Perwin, thank you for your generosity. This is an incredible way to honor an amazing woman. I would love to hear more stories about Mrs. Perwin and her commitment to Florida arts and culture, as this is exactly the field in which I am most interested.

Thank you again and I look forward to meeting everyone at the reception.

Dear Mr. Perwin,

I am profoundly honored to be a recipient of the Jean Perwin Memorial Scholarship. I would like to express my sincere gratitude for your support towards not only my education, but women lawyers in the intellectual property field. When the phone call came, I was speechless. Your support has given me the hope I need to continue to follow my dreams.

I am a 2L at Florida International University, College of Law. My goal is to use the skills I have harnessed in law school towards a career in the intellectual property legal field. I currently work as a Student Attorney in FIU Law Business, Innovation, & Technology Clinic. This opportunity has allowed me to fully delve into the IP field by drafting various legal documents for my clients, including trademark applications, copyrights, creating non-disclosure, licensing and website agreements. This opportunity has shown me how interesting the IP field can be and how much I enjoy working in it. An even greater goal of mine is to share my outlook of this growing field to the future legal generation.

That is why, like your wife, I too mentor incoming law students. Although I am unable to provide financial support to students as of now, I make sure to give my mentees assistance in any way I can. Being on the board on our schools’ Intellectual Property Student Association (IPSA), I have been able to educate students about unique IP opportunities during our panels and events throughout the academic year. After graduation, I hope to become an attorney for a company that focuses on technology. I hope to continue to mentor law students, especially women who share my same spark for IP.

By awarding me the Jean Perwin Memorial Scholarship, you have pushed me one step closer to my goals. Thank you for lightening my financial burden and allowing me to focus on my education. Your generosity as well as, your wife’s legacy, has inspired me to continue to help others and give back to my legal community.

Sincerely,

Karen Pineda
